Greetings and best wishes for 2008 from the members of Mozayik. We would like to take a moment to say "thank you" to all of our fans, and to let you know how much we appreciate each and every one of you. Without your support, there would be no Mozayik. Our heartfelt thanks to you all, and please continue to support us as we have much in store to share with you in the coming year!
As some of you are no doubt already aware, this past year presented Mozayik with perhaps our biggest challenge yet - the departure of a founding member of the band, pianist Welmyr Jean-Pierre. Welmyr's musical contributions to Mozayik have been immeasurable, and he will be sorely missed. Mozayik was saddened to learn that Welmyr would no longer be available to work with us. However, we are more than pleased to present the newest member of our ensemble; David Dormeus. Mr. Dormeus is an extremely talented young Canadian/Haitian keyboard player, currently on a full scholarship at the New School Jazz Program in New York City. He is the featured pianist in the John Coltrane Ensemble at the New School, and at 23 years of age, David already has extensive professional music experience. Details on David's musical accomplishments, along with photos and an updated website are forthcoming. We welcome David Dormeus to the Mozayik family, and the band is sure to benefit from his great talents and youthful enthusiasm. Mozayik bandleader Gashford Guillaume recently completed an extensive interview with the wonderful website dedicated to Haitian jazz: Karijazz.com. Gashford speaks about Welmyr's departure, the addition of David Dormeus to Mozayik, and reflects on the history of the band, and where we are headed. Mozayik in Massachussetts
Our debut Boston-area performance was on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Tamboo Restaurant in Brockton. Mozayik & special guest Emeline Michel put on a very special evening of Haitian music for a sold-out crowd. Pictures are now posted on the photos page.
